Ratings and fit for motor starting
The ABB PST85 1SFA895008R7020 is a softstarter rated for 85 A in-line connection and 147 A inside-delta, delivering 45 kW at 400 V in-line or 75 kW at 400 V inside-delta. That inside-delta rating means you can start a larger motor by wiring the softstarter inside the delta loop — common on European 400 V three-phase systems where the motor windings are delta-connected and the starter handles phase current, not line current. Built-in electronic overload protection eliminates the need for a separate thermal relay, saving panel space and wiring. The adjustable ramp time from 0 to 120 seconds lets you tune the acceleration profile for the load — pumps, fans, conveyors — so you avoid mechanical shock or excessive inrush. Main circuit voltage range 400–690 V AC covers standard European 400 V and 690 V industrial networks. The control supply is 100–250 V AC, with a separate 24 V DC control circuit for PLC or safety relay interfaces.
Mounts on a backplate or DIN rail inside a standard IP00 panel. The main circuit terminals are bars with an 8.5 mm hole — expect lug connections for cable sizes up to the rated current. Control circuit terminals accept 1 x 2.5 mm² rigid, torqued to 0.5 N·m. Communication via FieldBusPlug — a standard ABB fieldbus interface that plugs into the softstarter for PROFIBUS, DeviceNet, or similar protocols. Analog output 0–10 V provides a speed or current signal back to the PLC. Built-in run, fault, bypass, and overload signal relays give discrete status feedback without extra modules. The red fault LED and yellow protection LED offer local diagnostics.
