PSR9 in the panel
The ABB 1SFA896105R1100 is a PSR9-class soft starter that ramps the motor up with a voltage ramp over 0…20 s, sized for 208…600 V AC at 50/60 Hz on three-phase mains. It is built for a 4xIe for 6s starting duty — the figure that decides whether a given motor fits — so the motor's locked-rotor current and load inertia need to come in under that envelope. Initial voltage during start is adjustable from 40…70 % of line, with a step-down special ramp of 100…60 % available for the deceleration side. That trims the mechanical shock on the coupling without adding a separate braking device.
Control-side wiring and what it does not do
The control supply is 24 V AC/DC on the Uc terminal, wired through screw terminals torqued to 1 N·m on the control circuit. Main terminals are IP20 per IEC 60529 / IEC 60947-1, so finger-safe but not dust- or water-protected — cabinet mounting is mandatory. There is no integrated electronic overload on this PSR9; ABB pairs it with an MS116 6.30…10.00 thermal overload block for the motor protection line. Run signal relay is present (green LED), fault, overload and by-pass signal relays are not — a status-only device, not a fault annunciator.
Ambient and connection envelope
Operation is rated -25…+60 °C ambient. Main-circuit and supply-circuit connecting capacity is rigid 1/2 x 0.75…2.5 mm²; control circuit takes 1 x 0.75…2.5 mm². The UL/CSA frame rating is 2 Hp at 200…208 V AC three-phase, with control-circuit tightening torque 8.9 in·lb on the UL side.
Compliance paperwork
RoHS compliance follows EU Directive 2011/65/EU and Amendment 2015/863 of 22 July 2019; the part is WEEE Category 5 small equipment and is sold Business-To-Business, not through consumer channels. A FiledBusPlug fieldbus connection is optional, not fitted by default — a Modbus or anybus add-on would be a separate order line against this PSR9 base.
