What this PSRC3 soft starter does
The ABB 1SFA896203R7000 is a PSRC3 soft starter that applies a voltage ramp to bring a motor up to speed, with a fixed ramp time and a fixed initial voltage during start. It's built for three-phase induction motors on 208 to 600 V AC supplies, 50/60 Hz, and handles a starting capacity of 4x the rated current for 6 seconds — enough to get most standard motors turning without a hard mechanical jolt. The control circuit runs on 24 V DC, while the rated control supply voltage for the unit itself is 100 to 240 V AC. A green LED signals running, ramping up/down, and completed start ramp — three distinct indications from a single LED colour, so you read the sequence rather than the shade.
Screw terminals on the main circuit accept rigid 2 x 0.75 to 1.5 mm² conductors. The supply circuit uses the same size. Tighten control circuit terminals to 1 N·m (8.9 in·lb per UL/CSA). Degree of protection is IP20 on the main terminals — fine inside a clean panel, not for wet or dusty locations. Optional FiledBusPlug communication is available if you need network integration. The unit has a run signal relay (yes), but no fault signal relay, no by-pass signal relay, and no overload signal relay — so plan your external indication or PLC inputs accordingly.
For an official replacement path if that changes, ABB typically rolls PSRC3 into the next PSRC generation; check the ABB PSRC lineup for the closest functional equivalent when the time comes.
