The ABB 1SFA896209R7000 is a PSRC30-600-70 soft starter that uses a voltage ramp to bring motors up to speed gradually. It's rated for 208 to 600 V AC three-phase supplies and can deliver 4x the motor's rated current (Ie) for 6 seconds during start-up — enough headroom for most standard induction motors on pumps, fans, or light conveyors. The control circuit runs on 24 V DC, while the main control supply accepts 100 to 240 V AC. Screw terminals on both main and control circuits keep wiring straightforward for panel builders.
The 4xIe for 6 seconds starting capacity handles motor start-up current for that duration. Mount it inside a panel with a suitable enclosure rating for the environment — standard practice for a soft starter in a motor control center. ABB recommends pairing it with an MS132 manual motor starter in the 25 to 32 A range for overload protection, since this soft starter doesn't have built-in electronic overload. That's a common setup — the MS132 handles short-circuit and overload, the soft starter handles the ramp.
Screw terminals accept rigid conductors up to 2 x 1.5 mm² on both main and supply circuits. Tighten control circuit terminals to 0.6 N·m (5.3 in·lb for UL/CSA versions). The optional FiledBusPlug lets you connect to a fieldbus network without hardwiring discrete I/O for start/stop and status signals. Three signal LEDs on the front — green for ramping up/down, green for run, green for completed start ramp — give a quick visual on the starter's state without needing a screen or HMI.
