Soft start with voltage ramp — PSRC72
The ABB 1SFA896213R7000 is a PSRC72 soft starter that applies a voltage ramp during start, limiting inrush current and mechanical shock to the load. Fixed ramp time and fixed initial voltage mean no field adjustment — set it and commission it. Control supply is 100-240 V AC; the separate 24 V DC control circuit powers the logic and signal relays, keeping the high-voltage path isolated from the low-voltage control wiring.
Rated operational voltage covers 208-600 V AC, 50/60 Hz. The UL/CSA horsepower rating lands at 20 Hp on 200-208 V three-phase — that's the figure to match against your motor nameplate for North American installations. Starting capacity is 4x Ie for 6 seconds, enough for standard induction motor start profiles without oversizing the starter. Main circuit connections are bars; control wiring terminates with a torque spec of 0.6 N·m (5.3 in·lb for UL/CSA).
Signal and protection
Built-in run signal relay and by-pass signal relay give feedback for PLC or status lamp integration — no fault or overload relay on board. The manufacturer recommends an external overload relay (MS495 57-75) for motor protection. Green LEDs indicate running, ramping up/down, and completed start ramp, so panel walk-throughs are quick: one glance tells you the state.
RoHS compliant per EU Directive 2011/65/EU and Amendment 2015/863. WEEE category 5 (Small Equipment). Degree of protection on main terminals is IP10 per IEC 60529, IEC 60947-1, EN 60529 — basic finger-safety, not washdown.
