Soft starter with torque control — PSE18, 208-600 V AC
The ABB 1SFA897101R7000 is a PSE18 soft starter with integrated torque control, designed to ramp motors smoothly from 30% to 70% initial voltage over a 0-30 second adjustable ramp time. Rated operational voltage spans 208-600 V AC at 50/60 Hz, with a control supply of 100-250 V AC and a separate 24 V DC control circuit for logic. Communication is Modbus-RTU over screw terminals, with 4-20 mA analog outputs for speed or torque feedback to a PLC or drive controller. Built-in electronic overload protection covers locked rotor, current underload, and EOL (early overload limit) conditions, with a current limit adjustable from 1.5x to 7x Ie. Three signal relays — run, fault, and bypass — plus an overload signal relay give the panel builder discrete status feedback without extra I/O modules.
Main terminals are IP00 per IEC 60529 and IEC 60947-1 — no enclosure rating on the power block itself, so mount inside a panel with at least IP54 for washdown areas. Screw terminals on the control circuit accept 1 x 2.5 mm² rigid; tighten to 0.5 N·m. Main circuit connection uses an 8.5 mm hole diameter — plan for ring terminals or busbar lugs.
