What the PSTX85-600-70 carries
The ABB PSTX85 soft starter 1SFA898108R7000 is a current-production solid-state motor starter with auto phase sequence detection — it checks incoming rotation before the motor sees power, so a phase-reversal trip never reaches the load. Built-in electronic overload protection eliminates the separate overload relay, saving a DIN-rail slot and one wiring step. The ramp time is adjustable from 1 to 120 seconds, which covers soft-start profiles from quick pump starts to long conveyor acceleration. Main terminals are IP00 per IEC 60529 and IEC 60947-1 — panel builders need to house it inside a rated enclosure.
Fieldbus flexibility
Communication options cover Modbus-RTU, Modbus-TCP, EtherNet/IP, EtherCAT, DeviceNet, CANopen, PROFIBUS, PROFINET, BACnet-IP, and BACnet-MSTP — the same hardware handles any plant-floor network without swapping a module. Analog outputs are field-configurable for 0-10 V, 0-20 mA, or 4-20 mA, so the starter feeds a drive-signal to a PLC or SCADA without a signal conditioner. Warning and protection functions include current imbalance, locked rotor, earth fault, phase loss, over/under voltage, motor thermal inputs, and user-defined protection.
Wiring and integration
Main circuit terminals accept cable via a clamp with an 8.5 mm hole diameter; tightening torque is 8 N·m. The control circuit connects with rigid 1 x 2.5 mm² wire. A switch for inside-delta connection is built in, which reduces the starter current rating needed for delta-wound motors — a common panel-builder trick to use a smaller frame. Status LEDs on the front panel show running (green), fault (red), and protection (yellow) — enough for a quick walk-by check without opening the cabinet door. Signal relays are provided for run, fault, bypass, and overload, so the starter can annunciate each state to a PLC or a local beacon.
