The ABB 1SFA898208R7000 is a PSTX85 soft starter with built-in auto phase sequence detection — it verifies the incoming phase rotation before the motor starts, so a reversed-phase condition is caught at commissioning, not on a locked-rotor fault. The ramp time is adjustable from 1 to 120 seconds, which lets you tune the acceleration profile to the load inertia (conveyor, pump, fan).
Protection and control scope
The electronic overload is integrated — no separate overload relay needed. Protection covers current imbalance, underload, locked rotor, earth fault, phase reversal, over/under voltage, and ground fault. It also accepts PTC and PT-100 inputs for motor thermal monitoring. The analog outputs (0-10 V, 0-20 mA, 4-20 mA) can feed motor current or voltage signals to a PLC or drive controller.
Communication and integration
This soft starter speaks Modbus-RTU, Modbus-TCP, Ethernet/IP, EtherCAT, DeviceNet, CANopen, Profibus, Profinet, BACnet-IP, and BACnet-MSTP — it fits into nearly any fieldbus architecture without a gateway. The control supply is 100-250 V AC; the control circuit runs on 24 V DC. The main circuit terminals are cable-clamp type with an 8.5 mm hole diameter and 8 N·m tightening torque.
