The ABB 1SFA898211R7000 is a PSTX170 soft starter with auto phase sequence detection — it checks incoming phase rotation before the motor starts and flags a reversal, saving the commissioning trip of swapping two phases at the bars. Ramp time is adjustable from 1 to 120 seconds, so you can dial in the acceleration profile for a conveyor or pump without swapping hardware. Control supply runs on 100–250 V AC; the control circuit itself is 24 V DC, which keeps the logic side isolated from the power loop.
Fieldbus and IO
Communication options cover every major fieldbus — Modbus-RTU, Modbus-TCP, Ethernet/IP, EtherCAT, DeviceNet, CANopen, Profibus, Profinet, BACnet-IP, and BACnet-MSTP. That means it drops into a Rockwell, Siemens, or B&R line without a gateway. Analog outputs are configurable for 0–10 V, 0–20 mA, or 4–20 mA, so you can feed a speed reference or current signal back to a PLC or drive.
Protection and warnings
Built-in electronic overload protection covers locked rotor, current imbalance, underload, ground fault, phase reversal, over/under voltage, and more — the warning list runs to 15+ conditions including faulty fan, thyristor overload, and total harmonic distortion. Separate overload curves for start and run are available, which is useful for high-inertia loads where the start current profile differs from running. The unit also handles PTC and PT-100 inputs for direct motor thermal protection.
Lifecycle status is current. RoHS compliant per EU Directive 2011/65/EU and Amendment 2015/863. WEEE category 5 (small equipment). Main terminals are IP00.
