Drive module, R1 frame, 1.5 kW
The ABB 3AXD50000161898 is a current-production drive module in the R1 frame size, rated for 1.5 kW output power and 7.8 A output current under normal use on a 200-240 V three-phase supply. It carries an IE2 efficiency level and communicates via MODBUS. The IP20 enclosure and open-type NEMA rating suit panel-mount installations where the drive is protected from direct washdown.
Duty ratings and headroom
The normal-use rating of 1.5 kW / 7.8 A is the continuous output for typical constant-torque applications. For heavy-duty use — cyclic loads or higher starting torque — the rating drops to 1.1 kW / 6.9 A. Light-overload use (variable-torque loads like fans and pumps) matches the normal-use power at 1.5 kW but with a slightly lower current limit of 7.5 A. Under UL listing, the heavy-duty output is 1.5 Hp / 6.6 A and light-overload is 2 Hp / 7.5 A.
Input and environmental limits
The module accepts 200-240 V three-phase at 47.5-63 Hz. Ambient temperature maxes at 50 °C, with operating humidity from 5 to 95% RH. Altitude is rated to 1000 m without derating. Standby loss is 15 W, and sound pressure level is 63.1 dB(A). The 105 W power consumption at rated load gives a rough heat rejection figure for panel cooling calculations.
The drive includes 5 digital inputs and 2 digital outputs, plus 2 analog inputs and 1 analog output. MODBUS is the onboard communication protocol; there are no industrial Ethernet interfaces on this variant. The control unit is included in the package. For a MODBUS RTU network, set the node ID and baud rate via the drive parameters — no extra option card needed for basic serial communication.
