The ABB ACS180-04N-12A2-1 (order code 3AXD50000840335) is a single-phase-input drive module rated 3 kW / 12.2 A for normal-duty motor loads on 200–240 V supply. It includes the control unit, so it arrives as a complete drive ready for panel mounting. Input frequency range is 47 to 63 Hz. Power factor is 0.98. Built-in MODBUS RTU on the RS-485 port handles parameter access and basic control. There is no industrial Ethernet interface, so if your network expects PROFINET or EtherNet/IP, plan for a gateway or a different drive variant.
The normal-use output rating (12.2 A, 3 kW) is the constant-torque figure — sized for a standard 3 kW induction motor. Heavy-duty use drops to 9.3 A / 2.2 kW, which applies when the load requires higher torque at low speed (conveyors, crushers). Light-overload use is 11.6 A / 3 kW, for variable-torque loads like fans and pumps. For North American installations, the UL listing shows 3 Hp at light-overload (11.6 A) and 3 Hp at heavy-duty (9.8 A). The heavy-duty UL current is 9.8 A, slightly above the IEC heavy-duty figure — the UL curve allows a bit more headroom. The drive is Open Type (NEMA), so it must be mounted inside an enclosure that meets the IP20 touch-safe requirement.
I/O and control
Two analog inputs and one analog output handle speed reference and feedback signals — enough for a basic process loop. Four digital inputs and two digital outputs cover start/stop, fault reset, and status indication. No industrial Ethernet port is present; communication is MODBUS only. If your controller speaks MODBUS RTU, this drive connects directly. Otherwise budget for a protocol converter.
The drive is rated for operation up to 2000 m altitude without derating. Ambient humidity range is 5–95% RH, non-condensing. Sound level is 62 dB(A) — noticeable in a quiet control room, but typical for a drive of this size. WEEE category 5 (Small Equipment) — no special disposal beyond standard electronic waste handling. No battery is included, so no periodic battery replacement.
