What it is and what it runs on
The ABB ACS180-04N-09A8-1 is a low-voltage AC machinery drive module intended for cabinet-mount variable-speed control of small induction or permanent-magnet motors. Power factor is listed at 0.98, which is the figure to use when the supply transformer loading study is checked against the cumulative drive count on a panel.
Panel footprint and frame
The drive sits in frame R1 at 70 mm wide, 220 mm tall and 143 mm deep, a compact module-format footprint that drops into the standard ACS180 cabinet cutout alongside other R1 siblings. Enclosure is Open Type / IP20, so the module goes inside a cabinet with the listed degree of protection; it is not a stand-alone floor-mount unit. Installation altitude ceiling is 2000 m; above that the cooling curve and voltage clearance margins need re-checking against the ABB derating note.
Fieldbus and integration
Communications on this module are MODBUS only — there is no second protocol listed, so any PROFINET, EtherCAT or Ethernet/IP gateway has to sit upstream of the drive rather than inside it. Cooling noise is rated 51.8 dB(A); worth checking against adjacent cabinet fans if the panel sits near a workstation.
