What the drive is
The ABB ACS550-U1-125A-4 is a general purpose variable-frequency drive in the ACS550 family, built for 3-phase 380-480 VAC supply and 3-phase output, with a 75 Hp nameplate and a frame size of R5 in a NEMA 1 wall-mount enclosure. That headline horsepower is the heavy-duty figure; the same frame delivers 100 Hp in normal duty, with output current shifting from 96 A in heavy duty to 124 A in normal duty on the same 3-phase output stage. The mechanical envelope is 29.0 in tall, 10.5 in wide, and 11.3 in deep, sized for a wall-mount NEMA 1 cabinet layout rather than a through-panel mount.
Reading the duty curves
Two current numbers travel with one order code. 124 A pairs with 100 Hp in normal duty; 96 A pairs with 75 Hp in heavy duty on the same 3-phase output stage. Specifying the wrong curve is the most common way this frame gets blamed for nuisance trips — a fan or pump application that pulls a constant-torque conveyor load past 96 A will fold the drive back into current limit, while the same drive on a centrifugal pump at 124 A is comfortably inside its normal-duty envelope.
Panel-side integration notes
The 3-phase input on 380-480 VAC lines up with the standard industrial distribution voltage on 480 V systems, so the drive drops into existing MCC topologies without a transformer tap change, and the 3-phase output feeds the motor without a reactor on most installations. The NEMA 1 wall-mount enclosure is intended for an indoor control room or a clean equipment room, not a washdown area. The 29.0 in height fits within a standard cabinet section for cable bend and fan clearance.
