Sizing and load profile
The ABB ACS580-01-018A-4 is an ACS580-series frequency converter: 5.5 heavy-duty, 7.5 light-duty, with 7.5 nominal and 22.7 max output current. Pair the motor kW to the duty curve rather than the nominal label. Size the motor on the duty that matches the application — a 5.5 kW constant-torque motor is the correct pairing; a 7.5 kW fan motor runs cleanly on the light-duty curve. Pushing a 7.5 kW constant-torque load onto this frame trips on the 22.7 A ceiling rather than the kW label.
Panel footprint
The drive occupies a 22.9 x 12.5 x 47.3 cm wall-mount footprint at 6.6 Kg — a single-person lift that mounts vertically with the heatsink fins vertical. Cable entry planning should respect that 12.5 cm width; gland plate layout needs to clear the bottom-entry power terminals without crowding the control terminal row.
Step-up within the series
For a load that lands above 22.7 A, the same-series step is the ACS580-01-033A-4 — 11 kW heavy-duty / 15 kW light-duty, max output 44.3 A, in a wider 22.9 x 20.3 x 49 cm frame at 11.8 Kg. It is not a panel-for-panel swap with the 018A-4: the 033A-4 is a larger chassis, so the cabinet cutout and the cable bend radii need to be reworked, not just the parameter set.
