The ABB ACS580-01-052A-4 is a general-purpose ACS580 wall-mount drive rated for 3-phase 480 V AC supply, sitting in frame size R4 at 25.04" H × 7.99" W × 10.43" D for NEMA 1 indoor cabinet work. Two duty points are published: 40 Hp normal duty at 52 A and 30 Hp heavy duty at 40 A, both on the same 380–480 V AC 3-phase feed. That dual rating is the headline decision: the same catalog code covers a 40 Hp fan/pump/conveyor profile and a 30 Hp constant-torque profile, so the panel-builder picks the duty before the BOM line closes — not the other way around. Heavy duty carries the I²t the motor actually imposes on a load with a real starting transient; normal duty assumes a quadratic torque curve where the drive never has to pour full current into a stall. At 480 V 3-phase the R4 chassis is a known envelope on the ACS580 line — same footprint family as the smaller-current siblings below it, so mounting holes, gland plate cut-out, and field wiring land on the same template across the frame row.
Integration notes
Wall-mount NEMA 1 means the cabinet ventilation story has to be solved at the panel level — the drive itself is IP21-style, not gasketed for washdown, so plant-side dust and drip risk drives the enclosure choice. Inside that envelope, the R4 frame leaves the standard ACS580 control bay intact: keypad on the door, power terminals landed on the lower gland area, and the usual brake / I/O extension slots behind the cover.
Sourcing posture
ABB ACS580-01 drives are a current production family, so this code is specified into the BOM rather than chased on the broker market. For a line-down spare or a new panel build, the order goes in against the ABB catalog code with the duty point selected at the time of quote; we work that order against our distribution channel on RFQ.
