The ABB AE50-30-00-81 is a 3-pole IEC contactor from the A-Line series, AE50 frame, rated for 54 A motor current and 80 A general-purpose load at 600 V. It carries a 24 V DC coil and comes with a factory-installed auxiliary contact block providing one N.O. and one N.C. set — enough for a feedback signal to the PLC and a seal-in interlock without a separate add-on. This is the part you spec into a motor starter bucket or a lighting contactor panel where the control voltage is 24 V DC and the branch circuit needs three poles.
The 54 A motor current rating is the continuous thermal current (Ith) at the contactor's rated insulation voltage — size your motor FLA below that, with headroom for starting inrush and ambient derating. The 80 A general-purpose ampacity covers resistive loads like heaters or lighting banks; don't use that figure for inductive motor duty.
Built-in auxiliary contacts
The 1 N.O. + 1 N.C. auxiliary block is integrated into the AE50-30-00-81, not a separate side-mount kit. That saves a catalog line and a wiring step. Wire the N.O. to the PLC digital input for status; use the N.C. for a mechanical interlock or a seal-in circuit. If you need more than two auxiliary contacts, ABB offers add-on blocks that clip onto the front or side of the AE50 frame — but verify the stack height fits your enclosure depth.
