The ABB AF12-30-10-14 is an IEC contactor from the AF-Line series, AF12 frame, rated for 28 A general-purpose duty on a 3-pole, 600 VAC system. The coil accepts a wide control range of 250-500 VAC or VDC, which simplifies panel wiring when the control voltage is not tightly regulated. A single normally-open auxiliary contact block is integrated on the front, giving one spare N.O. feedback pair for the PLC or status lamp without an add-on module.
What the 28 A rating means for fit
The 28 A figure is the general-purpose (AC-1) thermal current rating — the contactor's continuous carry capacity in resistive or lightly inductive circuits. For motor loads, the AC-3 rating (typically about 55-60% of the AC-1 number on this frame) governs the actual switching duty. That means the AF12-30-10-14 is sized for motors drawing roughly 15-17 A full-load — think small conveyors, fans, or pump starters up to about 7.5 kW at 400 V.
The AF12 frame occupies about 45 mm of rail width — leave an extra 10 mm on each side for finger-safe wiring clearance. The spring-cage terminals accept 0.75–2.5 mm² stranded or solid conductors; strip length 8 mm. Coil connections are polarity-insensitive for AC, but for DC control verify the polarity matches the suppression diode if one is fitted across the coil.
