What the 42 A rating means for fit
For motor switching (AC-3), the actual current capacity will be lower — typically around 30–35 A for a contactor in this frame size. Always check the AC-3 rating in the datasheet before committing to a motor load.
Coil voltage — 250-50 V
The 250-50 V coil is a wide-range AC/DC coil common on ABB AF series contactors. It picks up reliably across that voltage band, so it works in 230 V or 240 V control circuits without a separate transformer. The wide range also handles voltage dips better than a fixed-coil design.
