On a 277 VAC circuit the 6 kA interrupting rating handles typical branch-fault energy in commercial lighting or small-motor panels. Trip Curve C means the magnetic trip fires at 5 to 10 times rated current (200–400 A for this 40 A unit). That's the right curve for moderate inrush loads — contactors, small transformers, fluorescent ballasts — where you don't want nuisance trips from the magnetizing surge but still need short-circuit protection. In a motor branch circuit, pair it with a contactor and overload relay upstream; the MCB handles the fault, not the running overload.
The 2-pole width is 36 mm (2 modules of 18 mm), which fits a standard enclosure gland plate without crowding. Spring-cage terminals accept 1–25 mm² conductor — strip to 12 mm, torque to 2.5 N·m. Leave a 10 mm air gap between adjacent breakers for thermal derating; in a sealed panel running above 40 °C, reduce the continuous load to 32 A.
