The ABB S202MUC-Z5 is a 2-pole miniature circuit breaker from the S200MUC series, rated at 5 A with a Trip Curve Z characteristic. It mounts on a standard DIN rail, making it a direct swap into existing ABB or compatible panelboards. The 6 kA interrupting capacity at 277 VAC covers most commercial lighting and control circuits; the 10 kA DC rating at 500 VDC suits battery banks and DC bus protection.
Trip Curve Z — what it means for the circuit
Trip Curve Z is the most sensitive of the standard curves, tripping magnetically between 2 and 3 times rated current. For a 5 A breaker, that means instantaneous trip at 10–15 A. This is the right choice for protecting semiconductor circuits, control transformers, or PLC power supplies where standard B- or C-curve breakers would let through enough fault energy to damage sensitive electronics. It also means nuisance tripping on motor inrush is likely — do not spec this for motor branch circuits.
Panel integration and deployment
Snaps onto 35 mm DIN rail per EN 60715. The 2-pole format occupies two module widths (roughly 36 mm). Terminal capacity accepts up to 25 mm² conductor. For DC circuits, remember that the 2-pole configuration switches both the positive and negative legs — essential for ungrounded battery systems where a single-pole break on one leg leaves the circuit still live through the return path.
