It's the protective element between the contactor and the motor — when the motor pulls sustained overcurrent, the bimetal heats and trips the control circuit before the windings cook. The 32 A top end means it's sized for motors drawing that full-load current, with the 24 A floor giving you a 8 A adjustment window to dial in the exact FLA. Trip Class 20 means it allows up to 20 seconds to trip at 600% of the set current. That's the standard for general-purpose induction motors — pumps, fans, conveyors — where the starting inrush isn't brutal but still needs a few seconds to settle. If you're on a high-inertia load like a centrifuge, you'd want a Class 30; for a submersible pump with a soft start, Class 10 might be tighter than needed. This one splits the middle.
This relay mounts directly to Eaton A-Line contactors in the A/AE/AL9 through A/AE/AL40 frame sizes. No separate bracket or wiring base needed — it clips onto the contactor's power terminals, and the trip contacts wire back to the coil circuit. The 3-pole design passes all three phases through the bimetal elements, so a phase-loss condition (single-phasing) will also trip it, since the healthy phases pull the extra current. Selectable manual or automatic reset via the front dial. Manual reset is the safer choice for unattended machinery — the relay stays tripped until someone physically presses the reset button, so the line doesn't restart itself after a fault. Auto reset is useful for remote or hard-to-access panels where a momentary power cycle clears the fault, but you lose the lockout safety. Pick based on your guarding philosophy.
