As a solid-state overload relay, it mounts in a motor starter assembly — typically on a contactor or directly to a DIN rail inside a panel. The thermal model protects the motor from sustained overcurrent by tripping when the heat buildup in the relay element exceeds the set point. No moving parts in the sensing circuit, so it holds up better against vibration than a bimetallic strip in a high-cycle application.
