What the 29 A rating means for fit
The TF42-29 is a thermal bi-metallic overload relay rated 29 A, with an adjustable range of 24 to 29 A. That 29 A figure is the top end of the dial — you size it to the motor full-load current, not the relay's maximum. It is designed for use with Eaton AF Series contactors in the AF9 through AF38 frame sizes. Selectable manual or automatic reset gives the panel builder flexibility: manual reset for unattended or remote installations where an automatic restart after a trip could be a safety hazard, or auto reset for conveyors and pumps where a momentary overload clears itself.
Integration with the AF contactor
Mounts directly to the AF9 through AF38 contactor — no separate bracket or wiring kit needed for the mechanical interlock. The bi-metallic element tracks the motor's thermal curve, so the relay sees the same ambient as the contactor in the panel. Spring-clamp terminals on the relay accept the same wire sizes as the contactor coil terminals, keeping the panel wiring consistent.
