What the 35 A rating means for fit
The Eaton TF42-35 is a 3-pole thermal bimetallic overload relay rated 35 A, adjustable from 29 to 35 A. That 35 A figure is the top of the adjustment dial — the relay is sized for a motor full-load current between 29 and 35 A. The NEMA type designation refers to the enclosure style, not the mounting footprint — this unit is designed for direct mounting to Eaton AF9 through AF38 frame contactors.
Integration with AF contactors
This relay mounts directly onto AF9, AF12, AF16, AF26, AF30, and AF38 frame contactors without additional hardware. The thermal bimetal element senses motor current through the contactor's power poles, so the wiring path is contactor → overload relay → motor. Selectable manual or automatic reset on the front dial lets you choose whether the relay latches after a trip or resets when the bimetal cools — manual reset is typical for unattended or remote installations where an automatic restart could be a safety hazard.
