What it is and where it sits in a panel
The ABB XT2H 160 TMA 80-800 3p F F is a moulded case circuit breaker from the SACE Tmax XT family, built on the XT2 sub-type frame in a three-pole, fixed-front-terminal configuration for power distribution. It carries a thermal-magnetic adjustable release (TMA) set to 80 A rated current, which means the thermal element protects sustained overloads up to that figure while the magnetic element trips instantaneously somewhere in the 400–800 A window — the band the protection study has to respect when coordinating with downstream devices. The frame is rated for 160 A uninterrupted current, so the 80 A breaker is operating well under its frame ceiling; this is the part an integrator chooses when the load sits in the lower half of the XT2 size range and full XT4-class headroom is not required.
Voltage and short-circuit envelope
Rated operational voltage reaches 690 V AC at 50/60 Hz, with a 1000 V insulation rating (Ui) and an 8 kV impulse withstand (Uimp) — the numbers that govern clearance and creepage in the panel layout, not the run voltage of any single feeder. On DC strings the breaker is rated for 70 kA at 250 V DC with two poles in series, and 70 kA at 500 V DC with three poles in series, so a DC battery or PV feeder application requires the poles to be wired in series as specified — that is a wiring-diagram detail, not an option. Power loss at rated operating conditions is 5.8 W per pole; for panel thermal budgeting, multiply by the number of poles carrying full load.
Endurance and trip timing
Mechanical durability is rated for 240 cycles per hour and electrical durability for 120 cycles per hour across 8000 cycles, so the breaker is sized for normal distribution switching, not for repetitive motor-dutying where a dedicated motor-rated device would be the right pick. Opening time with a shunt opening release (SOR) is 15 ms, which is the figure that matters when the breaker sits inside a remote-trip or transfer scheme — fast enough for selective coordination with downstream protection.
