PLC I/O and expansion modules add digital inputs, digital outputs, analog channels, and specialty function blocks to a PLC rack or remote I/O island. Common sub-types include sinking and sourcing DC input modules, relay and transistor output modules, thermocouple and RTD analog modules, and network-specific expansion cards such as Ethernet/IP, PROFINET, and Modbus.
