What this sensor is and where it fits
The Omron E2E-X10MD212-M1TGJ 0.3M is an inductive proximity sensor from the E2E NEXT series, housed in an M12 unshielded barrel with a 10 mm sensing distance on ferrous targets. The DC 2-wire output is configured normally closed, so the circuit breaks to signal the target has left the detection zone — a natural fail-safe arrangement for position feedback on ammonia valve actuators or freezer door interlocks where a closed state should be confirmed by a held-open output.
Mounting and wiring notes for cold environments
Mount the unshielded barrel flush in steel or non-flush with the target face at the rated 10 mm gap — no derating needed for flush mounting because the field projects forward, not out the side. Wire the two-wire DC loop with polarity observed: one leg to the sensing input, the other to common. Because the output is normally closed, a target present holds the circuit closed; a lost target or broken wire opens the circuit, which most PLC fail-safe logic reads as a safe condition. The 0.3 m PVC cable is intended for a short sensor-to-junction-box run.
