M12 shielded body, 2 mm detection
The Omron E2E-X2E1-M1 is an inductive proximity sensor in a nickel-plated brass M12 threaded barrel. Shielded construction limits the sensing field to the face, so flush mounting in metal is fine — no derating for the surrounding steel. Rated sensing distance is 2 mm on mild steel. The shielded coil concentrates the field forward, which also reduces false triggers from side metal. The output is NPN-NO, 3-wire, meaning the load switches on when the target enters the zone.
Supply, switching, and environment
Supply voltage spans 10 to 40 VDC, so it runs on standard 24 VDC control power without a regulator. Switching frequency is 1.5 kHz — fast enough for counting parts on a conveyor at moderate speed, but the downstream PLC input filter must be set to catch the full pulse width. IP67 rating means the sensor is sealed against dust and temporary immersion. The connector termination avoids the cable-entry weak point common on potted sensors. Operating range is -40°C to 85°C, covering freezer lines and hot-motor proximity.
