What it does and what fits
The Omron E2E-X5MY1 2M is an AC 2-wire unshielded inductive proximity sensor in an M12 threaded barrel. It switches on ferrous metals up to 5 mm ±10% with a normally-open output. The pre-wired 2-meter cable and IP67 (plus oil-proof) rating make it a straight swap for AC-powered target detection in washdown or oily environments – think packaging lines or machine-tool coolant systems.
AC 2-wire limits the load to 5–200 mA with a max leakage current of 1.7 mA – fine for direct relay or PLC input, but not for high-current contactors without an intermediate interface. Compare with the E2E NEXT DC three-wire models (E2E-X1R5B1D8-M1 or E2E-X10C130-M1): those are 10-30 VDC PNP/NPN, M12 connector, and require a separate power supply if your panel is 24 VDC only. This unit runs straight off 24-240 VAC, no converter needed.
