What this part does
The E2K-X8MF1 is a capacitive proximity sensor from Omron’s E2K-X series, detecting both metallic and non-metallic objects through non-metallic walls. It’s a common form factor — 18 mm diameter, 80 mm tall plastic barrel — with a prewired 2 m cable and bare wire ends. The PNP normally-open output switches up to 200 mA at 10–30 V DC.
How it compares to the NPN sibling
If your panel was specified around the E2K-X8ME2 (NPN output, NC contact), the E2K-X8MF1 will not drop in without rewiring. The E2K-X8MF1 is PNP NO — opposite polarity and logic. Mechanically identical footprint, same 18 mm diameter and 2 m cable, but the output circuit and contact form are reversed. PLC input modules configured for NPN sinking must be repinned for PNP sourcing.
Mounting & wiring
Unshielded sensing face — no metal band around the face, so it can be flush-mounted in non-metallic material. The 2 m PVC cable terminates in bare wires for direct termination in a junction box or terminal block. Indicator light on the body shows output state. IP66 and NEMA 1/4/12/13 rating handles washdown in food or packaging environments.
