The C100L420FM is a Schneider Electric ComPacT NS new generation 4-pole circuit breaker with a MicroLogic 2.0 electronic trip unit, rated 1000 A at 50 °C. The 4 LEDs (red) for fault indication and 1 LED (yellow) for overload give local status without opening the door.
The MicroLogic 2.0 trip unit provides L (long-time overload) and I (instantaneous short-circuit) protection. The L protection follows an I²t curve with a thermal memory of 20 minutes — so if the breaker trips on overload, it remembers the heat profile and won't reclose until the internal model says the conductors have cooled. That matters for motor or transformer feeders where repeated starts can accumulate heat. The I protection is instantaneous, clearing high faults without intentional delay. The 1000 A rating at 50 °C means you size the load at 1000 A continuous; above 50 °C, derate per the IEC 60947-2 thermal curve. For selectivity with downstream breakers, the 20-minute thermal memory and the instantaneous pickup level (adjustable on the MicroLogic 2.0) let you coordinate time-current curves without a separate relay.
Physical integration and environmental limits
Fixed backplate mount, 280 mm wide × 327 mm high × 147 mm deep. Connection pitch is 70 mm; both upside and downside connections are front-facing, so the breaker can be panel-mounted with busbars or cables landing on the front terminals — no rear-access required. IP40 enclosure protection (no washdown rating; keep it in a clean indoor panel). IK07 impact resistance means it survives a 2 J hammer blow — typical for switchgear enclosures. Operating altitude 0–2000 m without derating; above that up to 5000 m with derating. Relative humidity 0–95 % non-condensing.
Mechanical durability is 10,000 cycles — the breaker can be opened and closed that many times under no-load or low-load conditions before mechanical wear is expected. Electrical durability depends on the current being switched: 2000 cycles at 690 V at full rated current (In), 3000 cycles at 690 V at In/2, 3000 cycles at 440 V at In, and 4000 cycles at 440 V at In/2. For a distribution breaker that mostly sits closed and only opens on fault or for maintenance, these numbers are generous — the mechanical life is the limit you'll hit first if you use it for daily load switching. Power losses are 34 W at rated current, which is the heat the breaker dissipates into the enclosure — factor that into your panel thermal calculation.
