What this breaker brings to a 1000 A distribution bus
The Schneider Electric C100L350FM is a 3-pole fixed-mount ComPacT NS new generation circuit breaker rated 1000 A at 50 °C with a MicroLogic 5.0 electronic trip unit. The electronic trip unit lets you dial in the curves on site rather than swapping thermal elements, which matters when you are commissioning a distribution board and need to adjust selectivity with the feeder breakers below it.
The C100L350FM carries 150 kA Icu at 220/240 V AC and at 380/415 V AC, then steps down to 130 kA at 440 V AC and 100 kA at 500/525 V AC. The 100 kA at 525 V still covers most 480 V industrial systems in North America, though the primary standard here is IEC 60947-2.
Lifecycle and sourcing — still in current production
Fixed-mount on a backplate, 327 mm high by 210 mm wide by 147 mm deep. Front-connect on both line and load sides — no rear-access requirement, which simplifies gland-plate layout in a standard IP40 enclosure. Power loss is 34 W at rated current. That is not trivial for a sealed panel — if you are packing multiple 1000 A breakers in a single enclosure, factor that heat into the ventilation or cooling budget. The thermal memory of 20 minutes means the trip curve remembers prior heating after a temporary overload, so it does not reset instantly and risk nuisance tripping on a re-energised warm bus.
Durability and signalling
Mechanical durability of 10,000 cycles and electrical durability of 2,000 cycles at rated current and voltage (690 V In). That is typical for a fixed-mount distribution breaker — it is not designed for daily switching like a contactor, but it handles the occasional load-break for maintenance isolation. Four red LEDs for fault indication and one yellow LED for overload give local diagnostics without opening the panel door.
