It combines a thermal-magnetic trip unit — the thermal element adjustable from 48 to 65 A per IEC 60947-2 — with a magnetic fixed trip set at 910 A. That magnetic threshold clears short-circuits fast enough to protect the downstream contactor and cable; the thermal curve handles overloads. It is designed for motor protection in AC networks at 50/60 Hz. Rated operational voltage is 690 V AC, with a breaking capacity of 100 kA Icu at 230/240 V, 50 kA at 400/415 V, and 6 kA at 690 V. That means at a 400 V industrial supply it can interrupt a 50 kA fault without welding its contacts — sufficient for most secondary distribution panels. The utilisation category is AC-3 per IEC 60947-4-1, so it is rated for switching squirrel-cage motors under load. It also carries Category A per IEC 60947-2 for selective coordination in a breaker lineup. Motor power ratings are 30 kW at 400/415 V, 45 kW at 500 V, and 55 kW at 690 V. Phase-failure sensitivity is built in per IEC 60947-4-1, so it will trip on a lost phase before the motor single-phases to destruction. It is also suitable for isolation per IEC 60947-1 — meaning you can safely use it as a visible-break disconnect for the motor circuit.
Mounting position can be horizontal or vertical, which gives flexibility in a crowded enclosure. The control is a rotary handle, so the breaker can be manually switched without opening the door. IP20 per IEC 60529 means finger-safe terminals; IK09 impact resistance means the enclosure can survive a 10 J blow from a tool drop. Climatic withstand conforms to IACS, so it is suitable for marine and humid environments. Screw-clamp terminals accept the motor and line cables; tightening torque is 5 N·m. Power dissipation per pole is 8 W at rated current — three poles total 24 W. That heat must be considered in the enclosure thermal calculation, especially if the breaker is enclosed in a small glanded box.
Compliance documentation is extensive: the breaker is certified to EN/IEC 60947-2, EN/IEC 60947-4-1, UL 60947-4-1, CSA C22.2 No 60947-4-1, and IEC/EN 60335-1 Clause 30.2 and IEC/EN 60335-2-40 Annex JJ. That UL and CSA listing covers North American installations; the IEC certifications cover European and global markets. Fire resistance is tested to 960 °C per IEC 60695-2-11. Operating altitude is rated to 3000 m without derating.
Durability and mechanical robustness
Electrical durability is 50,000 cycles under AC-3 at 415 V at rated current. Mechanical durability is also 50,000 cycles. That is a solid service life for a motor starter that cycles several times per shift. The breaker is rated for uninterrupted duty per IEC 60947-4-1, so it can carry rated current continuously without derating. Mechanical robustness: the contactor-open state withstands 15 Gn shocks for 11 ms; contactor-closed withstands 30 Gn for 11 ms. Vibration resistance is 4 Gn from 5 to 300 Hz. That makes it suitable for installation on machinery with vibration, such as compressors or conveyors.
