What this ATS brings to the panel
The Schneider Electric TA1AD4L10H4TPE is a TransferPacT automatic transfer switch rated for 1000 A continuous at 400 V AC, 50/60 Hz. That 1000 A figure is the uninterrupted duty rating — it carries full load without derating in normal service, not just a peak or short-time number. The AC-33B utilization category means it's built for mixed motor and resistive loads with occasional switching, typical of building services and industrial feeder changeovers. Four poles, PC-class (no overcurrent protection built in), with mechanical interlocking between sources so both can't close simultaneously. Front face carries IP40 in auto mode; inside the enclosure it's IP20. Rated insulation voltage is 1000 V on the switch side, 500 V on the controller — keep that in mind when wiring aux circuits.
Short-circuit performance and isolation
Rated short-time withstand current (Icw) is 50 kA for 0.5 s and 70 kA for 0.1 s. Making capacity (Icm) hits 105 kA as a standalone switch-disconnector, or 154 kA with an upstream breaker. That tells you this unit can handle a fault long enough for upstream protection to clear, and it's rated for isolation — suitability for isolation is confirmed, with a visible contact position indicator showing three positions. Mechanical durability is 10,000 cycles — that's the expected life of the switching mechanism under normal use.
Integration and connections
Fixed mounting on a plate (not DIN rail). Dimensions: 540 mm wide, 391 mm high, 383.5 mm deep — that's a substantial footprint; plan your enclosure layout accordingly. Both upside and downside connections are screwed terminals, pitch 115 mm. The LCD screen on the controller gives you status and mode info; control is automatic with manual override available. Signal contacts are configurable: 1 NO + 2 NC, or 1 NC + 2 NO, or 2 NO — you pick the arrangement that fits your remote monitoring scheme. Padlockable in OFF position for lockout/tagout.
