The VW3A4606 is a passive filter designed to reduce current harmonics on Altivar variable-speed drives. It mounts in the drive line-up and connects via terminals rated for 50 mm² cable. The 43 A rated current and 400 V supply voltage place it on drives in the 22 kW / 30 hp class — specifically the ATV61HD22N4, ATV61WD22N4, ATV61WD22N4C, ATV71HD22N4, and ATV71WD22N4 models. One filter per drive is required.
Harmonic performance and efficiency
Total harmonic current distortion (THDI) varies by drive model: 10 % on the ATV61WD22N4 and ATV61WD22N4C, 16 % on the ATV61HD22N4, ATV71HD22N4, and ATV71WD22N4. Power factor correction is load-dependent — cos phi reaches 1 at 150 % of line current, 0.99 at 100 %, and 0.85 at 75 %. The filter itself operates at 98 % efficiency, meaning only 2 % of throughput is lost as heat.
Thermal and environmental limits
Rated for continuous duty at 5–40 °C ambient without derating. Above 40 °C up to 55 °C, derate current by 3 % per °C. Altitude derating applies above 1000 m — reduce current 5 % per additional 1000 m up to 4000 m. Relative humidity must stay between 5 and 85 %, non-condensing. IP20 enclosure means it is suitable for clean, dry cabinet environments only.
Lifecycle reality — obsolete, not orphaned
Schneider Electric has classified the VW3A4606 as obsolete. Do not assume a form-fit-function replacement exists without cross-referencing the drive model and harmonic requirements.
