Passive harmonic filter for Altivar drives — now obsolete
The Schneider Electric VW3A4608 is a passive filter designed to reduce current harmonics on Altivar variable speed drives. It carries a 101 A rated current at 400 V three-phase, 50 Hz, and achieves 98 % efficiency. The filter is now classified as obsolete per the manufacturer's lifecycle status.
The THDI performance varies by drive model: 10 % for ATV61WD45N4 and ATV61WD55N4 (and their C variants), and 16 % for ATV61HD45N4, ATV61HD55N4, ATV71HD45N4, ATV71HD55N4, ATV71WD45N4, and ATV71WD55N4. That means on the higher-power HD and WD variants, the filter still cuts line current distortion to 16 % — well under typical IEEE 519-2014 guidelines for general distribution systems. Power factor correction is load-dependent: cos φ reaches 1 at 150 % of line current, 0.99 at 100 %, and 0.85 at 75 %. The filter handles up to 1.5 x nominal current without saturating. One filter per drive is required for the listed ATV61 and ATV71 models. Terminal connection accepts up to 50 mm² conductors.
Installation and environmental limits
Rated IP20 — suitable for clean indoor panel environments. Operating temperature range is 5...40 °C without derating; above 40 °C up to 55 °C, derate current 3 % per °C. Above 1000 m altitude, derate 5 % per additional 1000 m. Storage temperature spans -25...55 °C with 5...85 % relative humidity, non-condensing.
