Passive harmonic filter for Altivar drives — 144 A, 400 V
The Schneider VW3A4609 is a passive filter designed to reduce current harmonics on the line side of Altivar variable-speed drives. It is rated for 144 A continuous at 400 V ±10 %, three-phase, 50 Hz ±5 %. Efficiency is 98 %, and the filter delivers a total harmonic current distortion (THDI) of 10 % when paired with drives such as the ATV61HD90N4 (90 kW / 125 hp) or ATV71WD75N4 (75 kW / 100 hp); with certain 75 kW drives the THDI rises to 16 %. The power factor reaches unity (cos φ = 1) at 150 % of line current and stays above 0.99 at full load.
The 144 A rated current sets the maximum drive-side load the filter can handle continuously without derating. At 400 V three-phase, this corresponds to drives in the 75–90 kW range — the filter is listed for one unit per drive on ATV61 and ATV71 frames of that power class. The 10 % THDI figure means the filter brings line harmonics below the IEEE 519-2014 typical guideline for a dedicated transformer; the 16 % figure on certain 75 kW drives still represents a substantial reduction from an unfiltered drive (typically 30–40 % THDI). Connection is via terminals accepting up to 50 mm² conductors, sized for the 144 A path.
Installation and environmental limits
Mount inside a ventilated cabinet. Operating ambient is 5–40 °C without derating; above 40 °C up to 55 °C, derate current by 3 % per °C. Above 1000 m altitude, derate 5 % per additional 1000 m. The filter carries Class F insulation, so internal winding temperature rise is rated for a 155 °C hot-spot limit.
