The VW3A46136 is a passive input filter from Schneider Electric's Altivar accessory range, designed to reduce current harmonics drawn by variable speed drives. It delivers a THDI of 5 % for Altivar models from the ATV630 at 160 kW up to the ATV61H at 560 kW, satisfying IEC 61000-3-12 and G5/4 engineering recommendation. Rated at 325 A input and 338 A output on a 400 V ±10 %, 50 Hz three-phase network, the filter handles the full motor current plus the harmonic circulating component. Efficiency is 98 %, so the 1406 W thermal loss figure is the heat the panel must vent — at that level, forced ventilation or a larger enclosure is the rule, not the exception.
The THDI of 5 % is the headline number — it tells you the filter reduces line-current harmonics to roughly one-tenth of what an unfiltered 6-pulse drive would produce. That is enough to meet IEC 61000-3-12 for most installations and the UK G5/4 recommendation, but not IEC 61000-3-4 for very weak networks. The Cos phi varies with load: 0.99 at full load, 0.85 at 75 % load, and unity (1) at 150 % overload for 60 seconds — the filter does not degrade power factor at rated current. The quantity-per-drive table matters for procurement: a 355 kW ATV61H needs two filters, a 560 kW ATV61H needs three, while a 160 kW ATV630 wall-mount needs just one. Ordering the wrong count leaves the line non-compliant. The filter is IP20 as standard, IP55 when enclosure-mounted, so it can live inside a ventilated cabinet without additional sealing.
Integration notes
Electrical connection uses A/B terminals for control wiring (2.5 mm²) and terminals sized for 25 to 300 mm² power cables. Operating altitude derating kicks in above 1000 m: reduce current 5 % per additional 1000 m. Ambient temperature derating starts at 45 °C; above that, derate 3 % per °C up to 60 °C.
