Passive harmonic filter for Altivar drives
The Schneider VW3A4619 is a passive filter designed to reduce current harmonics from Altivar variable speed drives, specifically the ATV61HC40N4 and ATV71HC40N4 frames rated at 355 kW. It delivers a THDI of 10 % at full load, bringing the drive input current distortion down to a level that typically meets IEEE 519 recommendations without active front-end hardware. Rated at 325 A continuous and 400 V +/- 10 % three-phase, 50 Hz, the filter handles the full motor current plus a 1.5 x overload margin for transient conditions. Efficiency runs at 98 %, so the thermal load on the enclosure stays low for a 325 A device. Two VW3A4619 units are required per drive for the ATV61HC40N4 and ATV71HC40N4 frames — one per phase pair in the standard Schneider harmonic-filter topology for these large-frame drives.
Power factor and electrical characteristics
The filter corrects displacement power factor across the load range: cos φ reaches 1 at 150 % of line current, 0.99 at 100 % load, and 0.85 at 75 % load. This means the drive sees near-unity power factor at rated operation, reducing reactive current draw from the supply transformer. Class F insulation (155 °C) supports the thermal margin at full rated current. The filter is IP20 rated — suitable for clean indoor panel environments where the enclosure provides the physical protection. Ambient operating range is 5...40 °C without derating; above 40 °C up to 55 °C, derate current by 3 % per °C. For installations above 1000 m altitude, derate an additional 5 % per 1000 m up to 4000 m. Storage range is -25...55 °C with 5...85 % relative humidity, non-condensing.
