The Schneider VW3A5204 is a sinus output filter rated for 66 A continuous, designed to sit between an Altivar variable-speed drive and the motor. It converts the drive's PWM output into a near-sinusoidal voltage waveform, which reduces motor heating, eliminates reflected-wave stress on long cable runs, and cuts audible noise from the motor windings. At 100 Hz output, it dissipates 180 W — that heat must be cleared from the enclosure; the IP20 housing means it belongs in a clean, ventilated panel, not in a washdown area. Maximum motor cable length reaches 1000 m for 18.5 kW, 22 kW, and 30 kW motors at 400 V — useful when the drive cabinet is far from the driven load, such as on a conveyor line or pump station. The filter accepts terminals up to 25 mm² / AWG 2, torqued to 4 N·m.
The filter can handle 1.5× nominal current for 60 seconds — this covers the motor inrush during acceleration or a brief overload event, but sustained overloads beyond that will thermally stress the filter. The switching frequency range of 4 to 8 kHz matches the typical Altivar carrier settings; running outside that band may increase losses or reduce filter effectiveness. Operating altitude above 1000 m requires derating the current by 1% per 100 m. Ambient temperature above 40 °C also demands derating: 1.5% per °C up to 50 °C. Below 40 °C no derating is needed. The filter is rated for pollution degree 2 per EN 50178, which covers normal industrial environments with only non-conductive contamination. Mechanical robustness: 15 gn shock for 11 ms (IEC 60068-2-27) and vibration resistance of 1 gn at 13–200 Hz, plus 1.5 mm peak-to-peak at 3–13 Hz. That is sufficient for most fixed industrial installations; avoid mounting on a high-vibration platform without additional damping.
