The Schneider Electric VW3A5211 is a sinus filter rated for 1200 A continuous, designed as an output filter for Altivar variable speed drives. It filters the PWM waveform from the drive to a sinusoidal voltage, reducing motor stress and bearing currents on long cable runs. Maximum permissible voltage is 500 V AC, and the filter handles switching frequencies from 4 to 8 kHz. At 100 Hz output, thermal losses reach 5150 W — that heat must be dissipated; the IP00 enclosure means it's intended for cabinet mounting with forced ventilation or adequate natural convection.
The 1200 A rated current (In) sets the continuous load the filter can carry without exceeding its thermal design. Overload capability is 1.5 x In for 60 seconds — useful for motor starting or short-term overloads. The 10% voltage drop at rated load is a design constraint: the drive's output voltage must be set higher to compensate, or the motor will see reduced torque at full load. Operating temperature range is -10 to 40 °C without derating; above 40 °C up to 50 °C, derate current by 1.5% per °C. Altitude derating starts at 1000 m: 1% per 100 m above that. Electrical connection uses four bare wires, each 11 mm diameter — plan cable lugs accordingly.
Rated for pollution degree 2 per EN 50178 (non-conductive pollution only, occasional condensation). Shock resistance is 15 gn for 11 ms per IEC 60068-2-27; vibration resistance is 1 gn from 13 to 200 Hz and 1.5 mm peak-to-peak from 3 to 13 Hz per IEC 60068-2. Relative humidity range is 0 to 95%. Environmental classification is 3B1, 3C2, 3S1 per IEC 721-3-3. Storage temperature spans -40 to 65 °C.
