SIRIUS direct starter, 5.5 kW at 400 V, CLASS 10
The Siemens 3RK1315-6LS41-2AA3 is a SIRIUS direct motor starter — a self-contained unit combining a contactor, overload relay, and AS-Interface communication in one IP65 enclosure. It is rated for 5.5 kW at 400 V and 5.5 kW at 500 V, with horsepower ratings of 3 hp at 230 V, 7.5 hp at 480 V, and 10 hp at 600 V. The CLASS 10 trip class means the overload relay will trip within 10 seconds at 7.2× the set current — fast enough to protect standard induction motors from locked-rotor heating without nuisance tripping on normal starts. Supply voltage is 24 VDC nominal, with a permissible range of 20.4 to 28.8 VDC and an absolute maximum of 31.6 V — the 26.5 V minimum permissible ensures reliable operation even with a sagging 24 V bus.
AS-Interface fieldbus with 4 digital inputs
Communication is via AS-Interface protocol — a two-wire bus that carries both power and data to the starter. Device addressing is set through an M12 plug, and the main current circuit connects via a HAN Q4/2 connector per ISO 23570. Four digital inputs are integrated into the unit, allowing local pushbuttons or sensors to be wired directly without a separate I/O block. The ON-delay is 85 ms and the OFF-delay is 65 ms — these sequencing delays prevent rapid cycling on a bouncing start signal. The starter supports direct starting and on-site operation, but does not support reverse starting or PROFINET/PROFIBUS DP protocols — it is an AS-Interface-only device.
IP65 enclosure, screw fixing, horizontal preferred
The IP65 protection class means the enclosure is dust-tight and protected against water jets — suitable for washdown areas or dusty industrial environments without a separate cabinet. Mounting is by screw fixing, with horizontal orientation recommended, though vertical and flat positions are permitted. Dimensions are 159 mm deep, 294 mm wide, and 215 mm tall — a compact footprint for a fully integrated motor starter with fieldbus. The pollution degree is 3 (conductive pollution), so the unit is designed for industrial atmospheres where occasional condensation occurs. Shock resistance is rated at 12g for 11 ms, and vibration resistance at 7 mm / 2g — the starter can be mounted on machinery that experiences moderate mechanical shock without loosening connections.
Active production, sourced to order
Operating temperature range is -25 to +55 °C, with storage and transport limits of -40 to +70 °C — the unit can be stored in unheated warehouses and deployed in most factory-floor environments.
