Integrator's first look — 3RT7046-1AG00
It switches motor loads up to 690 V in AC-3 duty, with a maximum operating rate of 800 switching cycles per hour under AC-3 and 250 per hour under AC-4. The front of the contactor carries an IP20 rating — safe for finger contact in a panel — while the terminal area is IP00, meaning it must be enclosed or guarded against accidental contact. Mounting is flexible: screw-fix or snap onto 35 mm or 75 mm standard DIN rails.
Panel integration — footprint and wiring
At 70 mm wide and 139 mm deep, the S3 frame occupies a standard DIN-rail slot. Both main and auxiliary/control circuits use screw-type terminals. The main circuit accepts 2× (0.5…1.5 mm²) or 2× (0.75…2.5 mm²) solid or stranded conductors, with the same range for finely stranded wire with ferrules. The coil holds at 0.27 W DC and closes at 0.68 W DC — low enough for PLC-driven outputs without an interposing relay in most cases.
Coordination and environment
With type of coordination 1, the recommended backup fuse is a gL/gG NH 3NA rated 200 A. Installation altitude is limited to 2000 m above sea level. Auxiliary contacts are rated for PLC-level reliability (17 V, 5 mA), so they can switch low-energy signals without contact oxidation issues.
