160 A minimum — the motor size floor
The 3RW5075-6TB05: The 160 A minimum rating sets the smallest motor this soft starter can handle. For a 400 V line, that's roughly an 90 kW motor at full load; at 230 V, about 45 kW. If your BOM motor is smaller, this unit is oversized and you'll lose the soft-start benefit — the current threshold won't engage properly. Rated voltage spans 200 to 600 V, covering 208 V North American, 400 V European, and 480/600 V industrial lines in one order code. No voltage-tap selection needed.
Trip Class selection for motor protection
Trip Class 10A, 10E, or 20E per IEC 60947-4-2 — the preset is 10A/10E, which clears a locked-rotor condition in 10 seconds at 7.2× FLA. The class is field-selectable via the HMI or parameter set.
ATEX and IECEx — hazardous-area motor starting
ATEX and IECEx certified — this soft starter can control motors in Zone 1 or Zone 2 gas atmospheres and Zone 21 or Zone 22 dust atmospheres when installed in the appropriate enclosure. The certification covers the soft starter itself, not the motor; the motor must also carry its own ATEX rating for the zone. UL and CSA approvals plus CE marking cover North American and European installations. No separate variant needed for UL 508 or CSA C22.2 panels.
Fieldbus integration — five protocols on one unit
PROFIBUS, PROFINET, Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, and EtherNet/IP — all supported natively or via the standard communication module. The PROFINET interface also supports PROFIenergy for energy management during idle phases. No gateway needed for most plant networks.
Soft-start features for pump and conveyor duty
Voltage ramp and soft torque let you tune the acceleration profile. Pump ramp down decelerates gradually to prevent water hammer in pipeline systems. The minimum load is 15% of the smallest settable Ie — below that, the soft starter may not detect the motor current reliably. Auto-reset and remote reset by cycling the control supply are standard. No separate reset relay needed for unattended restart after a fault.
Mounting and panel clearances
Screw fixing to a vertical mounting surface; the unit can be rotated ±90° or tilted ±22.5° front-to-back. Minimum clearances: 100 mm upwards, 75 mm downwards, 10 mm forwards, 5 mm at the sides, 0 mm backwards. These are the ventilation and cable-bend allowances — ignore them and you'll derate the unit or trap heat.
Operating temperature and derating
Rated for -25 to +60 °C during operation, but derating applies above 40 °C. At 50 °C ambient, expect roughly 80% of the rated current; at 60 °C, about 60%. The derating curve is in the manual — factor it into the panel thermal design, especially if the soft starter shares an enclosure with other heat sources.
