Trip Class 10A default — what it means for motor protection
The 3RW5215-1TC14 is a SIRIUS soft starter rated for a minimum motor current of 11.5 A and a rated operational voltage of 200 to 480 V AC. Its default Trip Class is CLASS 10A per IEC 60947-4-2, with selectable 10E and 20E curves. CLASS 10A means the starter must disconnect within 10 seconds at 7.2× the set current — the standard for standard-duty induction motors driving pumps, fans, and compressors where the load accelerates in under 10 seconds. For higher-inertia loads (centrifuges, long conveyors), switching to 20E buys 20 seconds of thermal headroom before tripping. The minimum load threshold is 15 % of the smallest settable Ie, so it handles lightly loaded motors without nuisance tripping. Service factor is 1 — no built-in overload margin beyond the set current.
Fieldbus flexibility — PROFIBUS, Modbus TCP, EtherNet/IP
This soft starter ships with PROFIBUS onboard and also supports Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, and EtherNet/IP. That covers the three dominant industrial Ethernet protocols plus the legacy PROFIBUS fieldbus, so it fits into Siemens S7, Rockwell, or Modicon architectures without an external gateway. PROFIenergy is available when paired with the PROFINET communication module. Remote reset is achieved by cycling the control supply voltage off and on — no separate reset signal required.
Mounting and clearance — screw-fixed, 275 mm tall
Mounting is screw fixing on a vertical surface, with ±10° rotation and forward/backward tilt allowed. The enclosure measures 275 mm high by 170 mm wide by 152 mm deep. Clearance requirements: 100 mm above, 75 mm below, 10 mm in front, 5 mm to the side, and 0 mm behind — so it can sit flush against the back panel. Power terminals accept 2× (1.0 to 2.5 mm²) and 2× (2.5 to 10 mm²) solid conductors. Shock resistance is 15 g / 11 ms, dropping to 12 g / 11 ms if contact lifting is a concern.
