Trip class and motor protection curve
The 3RW5216-1TC15 is set up for Trip Class 10A by default, with selectable 10E and 20E per IEC 60947-4-2. Class 10A clears an overload in under 10 seconds at 7.2× FLC — tight enough to protect standard squirrel-cage motors during starting without nuisance tripping on high-inertia loads. Class 20E buys you extra time for loads like crushers or centrifugals that need a longer ramp. Minimum adjustable current is 14 A, which sets the floor for the motor FLC you can protect. Below that rating, the overload curve won't calibrate correctly.
Fieldbus and control integration
This soft starter carries onboard PROFIBUS, Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, EtherNet/IP, and PROFINET — no separate communication module needed for most networks. The PROFINET interface also supports PROFIenergy for coordinated energy management during idle phases. Remote reset is handled by cycling the control supply voltage — useful for unattended restart after a fault clears.
Pump and torque control features
Pump Ramp Down is included — it extends the deceleration time to reduce water hammer in pump applications. Soft Torque mode provides a gentler acceleration profile for high-inertia loads like conveyors or centrifuges. Torque Control is not available on this unit — if you need closed-loop torque regulation during start, step up to the higher-feature variant.
Thermal derating and panel layout
In a sealed panel with other heat sources, budget for reduced continuous current above that threshold. Mounting is screw-fix to a vertical surface, rotatable ±90° and tiltable ±22.5° front-to-back. Clearance requirements: 100 mm upwards, 75 mm downwards, 10 mm forwards, 5 mm at the sides, 0 mm backwards — tight enough for most enclosures. Dimensions are 170 mm wide, 152 mm deep, 275 mm high — fits a standard 600 mm deep cabinet with room for wiring ducts.
Wiring and termination
That covers both control wiring and main power cables up to about 8 AWG.

Carries UL, CSA, and CE marking — accepted for panel builds in North America and the European Union without additional certification work.
