Trip class and motor protection coordination
The 3RW5225-3AC05: Minimum operating current is 25.5 A, which sets the lower bound for motor full-load amps the soft starter can reliably control. Below this threshold, the phase-angle firing may not maintain consistent conduction. Rated supply voltage spans 200 to 600 V AC, covering 208 V, 240 V, 400 V, 480 V, and 600 V networks without an autotransformer. The control supply is 24 V DC, isolated from the power circuit.
Fieldbus integration and commissioning
This soft starter ships with onboard PROFIBUS DP and Modbus RTU, plus support for PROFINET, Modbus TCP, and EtherNet/IP via optional communication modules. The same unit can be specified for a PROFINET island or a Modbus TCP line without a hardware variant change. PROFIenergy is supported when paired with the PROFINET standard communication module, allowing the drive to be put into an energy-saving idle state during production pauses — useful in automotive or machine-tool lines with planned stops. The analog output is configurable as 4-20 mA (default) or 0-10 V, parameterizable via the High Feature HMI. This feeds motor current, power, or thermal-utilization data to a PLC or SCADA without a separate transducer. Firmware can be updated in the field via the communication interface, so protocol revisions or bug fixes don't require swapping the unit.
Mounting, cooling, and environmental limits
Dimensions are 306 mm high, 185 mm wide, and 203 mm deep — a screw-fixed footprint that requires 100 mm clearance above, 75 mm below, 10 mm forward, and 5 mm at the sides for airflow and cable bending radius. Backward clearance is 0 mm, so it can be mounted flush against a back panel. Shock resistance is 15 g / 11 ms, with potential contact lifting above 12 g — relevant for mounting on vibrating machinery skids. Mounting position allows ±10° rotation on a vertical surface, so the unit can be tilted forward or backward slightly to fit existing busbar runs.
Lifecycle and compliance documentation
Carries UL, CSA, and CE marking, so it is accepted in North American and European jurisdictions without additional agency review. The pollution degree 3 rating aligns with IEC 60947-4-2, which is the governing standard for soft starters in industrial control panels.
