If your motor has a longer acceleration time (high-inertia load like a centrifuge), switching to class 20E buys you 20 seconds before the thermal model trips. The default is 10A; you set it via the integrated HMI or fieldbus. That means if this lives in a non-ventilated panel next to a drive, expect to reduce the current setting or add forced air — the thermal model inside assumes free airflow at 40 °C. Fieldbus options are stacked: PROFIBUS, PROFINET (with PROFIenergy), Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, and EtherNet/IP all on the same unit. No separate communication module needed for most networks — just wire the RJ45 or D-sub and set the node address. The PROFIenergy profile lets the PLC shut down the soft starter during idle periods to save panel power.
Mounts via screw fixing (not DIN rail) on a vertical surface, with ±10° tilt allowed forward or backward. That 100 mm upward gap is for heat plume rise — skimp on it and the internal thyristor heatsink will recirculate hot air, accelerating the derating curve.
