81 A minimum — what that means for motor starting
The 3RW5236-2TC14 is a SIRIUS hybrid soft starter rated for a minimum setting current of 81 A at 200-480 V. That 81 A floor governs the smallest motor you can protect — set the ramp below it and the starter won't engage. The trip class defaults to CLASS 10A per IEC 60947-4-2, with selectable 10E and 20E for longer acceleration profiles on high-inertia loads like centrifuges or crushers. The unit supports soft torque and pump ramp down, which means it can decelerate a pump gradually to avoid water hammer on shutdown — a feature that saves pipework and valves on water/wastewater lines.
Fieldbus and control integration
This soft starter ships with onboard PROFIBUS, Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, EtherNet/IP, and PROFINET standard communication — no add-on module needed for most plant-floor networks. The PROFINET interface also supports PROFIenergy, letting the starter participate in coordinated energy-saving pauses during production breaks. Auto-reset and remote reset (by cycling the control supply voltage) are built in, so the starter can restart after a fault without a panel visit — useful for remote or unattended pump stations. Firmware updates are field-loadable, though the error logbook requires a special accessory.
Mounting and cooling — panel fit
Dimensions are 306 mm high, 185 mm wide, 203 mm deep. The unit mounts by screw fixing, not DIN rail, so budget for four M6 screws into a backplate. The mounting surface must be vertical, but the starter can be rotated ±90° or tilted ±22.5° front-to-back — useful when fitting into a tight enclosure corner. Clearance requirements: 100 mm above, 75 mm below, 10 mm forward, 5 mm at the sides, and 0 mm backward (flush to the backplate). Shock rating is 15 g / 11 ms, dropping to 12 g if contact lifting is a concern.
