Motor starting duty and trip class selection
The 3RW5246-6TC14 is a SIRIUS hybrid switching device rated for a minimum motor current of 160 A at a supply voltage range of 200 to 480 V. The trip class is configurable as CLASS 10A (default), 10E, or 20E per IEC 60947-4-2, which governs the allowable thermal overload during acceleration. For a high-inertia load like a centrifuge or large fan, selecting CLASS 20E extends the start time window without nuisance tripping; CLASS 10A is the standard for most pump and conveyor starts. The unit supports soft torque and pump ramp down, which reduces mechanical shock on the load train during start and stop. This is relevant for applications where water hammer or belt stress is a failure mode.
Fieldbus integration and communication options
This soft starter ships with onboard PROFIBUS, Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, EtherNet/IP, and PROFINET standard communication. PROFIenergy is supported when used with the PROFINET communication module, enabling energy management during idle phases. The device also supports firmware updates in the field. No analog output is present, so closed-loop torque control is not available. The remote reset function is triggered by cycling the control supply voltage.
Panel fit and mounting clearances
Dimensions are 393 mm height, 210 mm width, and 203 mm depth. Required clearances: 100 mm upwards, 75 mm downwards, 10 mm forwards, 5 mm at the side, and 0 mm backwards. Shock resistance is 15 g for 11 ms, with potential contact lifting at 12 g for 11 ms.
Regulatory approvals and compliance documentation
The 3RW5246-6TC14 carries CE marking, UL approval, and CSA approval. Service factor is 1.0. The minimum load is 15% relative to the smallest settable Ie.
